20 Crores grant approved to launch courses in Technical Textiles

New Delhi: The Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, chaired the 8th Empowered Programme Committee (EPC) meeting under the National Technical Textiles Mission today at Udyog Bhawan, New Delhi. The committee approved grants to support innovation and education in the technical textiles sector, aligning with India’s vision of becoming a global leader in this field.

Five Educational Institutions have been approved for grants of approximately INR 20 crore to introduce new courses in Technical Textiles under the ‘General Guidelines for Enabling of Academic Institutes in Technical Textiles’. These institutions will offer specialized B.Tech programs covering various fields and applications, including Geotextiles, Geosynthetics, Composites, and Civil Structures, aimed at developing a skilled workforce in technical textiles.

The committee has also approved grants of approximately INR 50 lakhs each for Four innovative start-ups under the ‘Grant for Research & Entrepreneurship across Aspiring Innovators in Technical Textiles (GREAT)’ scheme. These start-ups focus on strategic areas such as Composites, Sustainable Textiles, and Smart Textiles, contributing to the growth of advanced materials and sustainable solutions in the technical textiles industry.
