Dharwad: Union minister for parliamentary affairs Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi stressed the importance of teaching skills along with theory to make children employable when they grow up.
Inaugurating the sesquicentennial (157th year) celebration of the Government Primary School at Uppinabetageri village in Dharwad taluk, he said the National Education Policy 2020 will help the overall development of students as it envisages a perfect blend of theory and skill besides allowing interdisciplinary studies.
“India is a country of youths as they constitute 65% of the country’s total population. To take the country forward youth need to be equipped with knowledge and training. The NEP just does that,” he added.
Legislative council chairman Basavaraj Horatti, who was the chief guest, hailed the school for imparting education to thousands of students in a rural area for over 157 years and said the schools apart from training the students in academics and extra-curricular activities should also teach moral values. “They should be taught. to love their family, parents, society, and nation and be empathetic towards the poor and needy. Then only the purpose of education will be fulfilled,” he said.
Bayaluseeme Development Board chairman Tavanappa Astagi presided over the program. Dharwad MLA Amrut Desai and former MLA Seema Masuti were also present.
