Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department has decided to broadcast audio classes on All India Radio to help expand the reach of virtual classes to the students of the state. The audio classes will broadcast on the All India Radio, Srinagar during day time for which time slots have already been specified by the station. The classes will be in addition to the Tele Classes started by Directorate of School Education (DSEK) on Doordarshan Srinagar Channel.
The decision to launch audio classes for students of the state comes at a time when schools across the state have been closed for nearly 5 weeks now, due to the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic in the country.
According to media reports, the initiative has been launched to ensure that the academic learning process and education for the students continue seamlessly even for those students who are located in remote areas where internet and television connectivity is a challenge.

According to the statement issued by Director, School Education, Kashmir, Mohammad Younis Malik, the School Education Department has launched several initiatives to stay connected with students and assist them in continuing their studies further during the national-lockdown announced by the government. He also added that a large number of students are connecting via its digital platform and video classes to pursue studies during the lockdown period.
These audio classes have been specially designed by teachers which will be broadcast through All India Radio. The classes are developed in line with the course curriculum that is followed in the schools and therefore intended to help students in their studies despite the school closure due to lockdown.
The Directorate of School Education (DSEK), Kashmir has already launched several special campaigns to ensure continuity of the academic processes among the students during the lockdown period. As part of this initiative, the DSEK has launched tele classes for students which are being aired on Doordarshan Srinagar TV Channel from 26th March 2020 onwards. In addition to this, to expand the reach of these television based classes, the Directorate has also roped in local cable networks which telecast the lessons prepared by DSEK.
In addition to this, the online education classes have also been made available to the students on YouTube Channel which helps students continue their study even during COVID-19 lockdown.
